What's the difference between local and long-distance calls?

In mobile telephony, the rules that differentiate between local and long-distance calls are different from those that apply to a landline. Therefore, when you receive calls on your mobile phone (what are referred to as "incoming calls"), long-distance charges may apply.

  • A local incoming call is a call that you receive on your mobile phone when you are in your local calling area, i.e. within the geographical zone associated with the number of your mobile phone.
  • All the calls you receive on your mobile phone when you are outside this area are considered long-distance calls.
  • A local outgoing call is a call that you make from your mobile phone. The local calling area corresponds to the area you are in when making the call. If you call a local number while in the calling area of this number, it is a local call.
  • If you call a number located outside the local calling area where you are, it is a long-distance call.
  • Please note that these rules are only valid if you are in the area covered by the extended network (outside of this area, roaming charges apply).
