Thanks to a partnership with Jour de la Terre organization, a tree will be planted for every Videotron customer who agrees to receive his or her invoice electronically–an invitation to take a responsible stand concerning the use of raw materials. Since the program was launched in 2007, more than 160,000 people have switched to online billing. How about you? Nothing could be simpler!
150,000 trees planted in one year
150,000 trees were planted in Quebec Province in 2008 as part of a project to create windbreaks.
These windbreaks have a number of advantages:
- They create river strips that help reduce blue-green algae.
- They curb soil erosion on farmland and increase road safety by providing wind and snow barriers
Thanks to this early success, we are continuing the initiative and hope that many of you will join in this year.
Tons of paper saved
Online invoicing also helps save tens of tons of paper, a way of going green that pays double dividends.
Jour de la Terre encourages individuals and businesses to take action to save the environment - on April 22 and every day of the year. Each year, more than 500 million people in 184 countries celebrate the environment by doing something practical on Jour de la Terre, the largest participatory environmental movement in the world. In Quebec, Jour de la Terre has been celebrated since 1995 and a growing number of activities are organized each year.
