- What is the Softphone?
-
The Softphone has the features of a conventional phone line and is accessed from a computer. For instance, you can travel all over the world and use your local phone number without any roaming charges.
The Softphone has advanced call management functions and allows you to handle several calls at once. This is without a doubt the ideal solution if you are often on the computer.
- What features are available with the Softphone?
-
The Personal Call Manager allows you to configure call forwarding to several phone numbers (simultaneously or in sequence) and review the full list of your incoming and outgoing calls on your Web browser. Located offsite on the Videotron network, it continues to manage your calls even when your computer is turned off.
The Softphone on your computer features an innovative interface with several advanced features:
- Make or receive up to three calls at once
- Dial numbers using your personal directory
- Hold conference calls bringing in up to four participants
- Retrieve your messages and access basic voice mail functions through a user-friendly control panel
- Activate videophony when talking to another Softphone subscriber
- How does the Softphone work?
-
The Softphone uses the latest communication technology, the SIP protocol (Session Initiation Protocol). It is actually an Internet-based telephone line. In its current form, the Softphone is entirely separate from cable telephone, so it's like another line with another number that can be used to make and receive calls.
When the Softphone is used with Videotron's cable Internet service, the quality of communication is ensured over our whole network. If you also use the recommended micro-headset, your conversation will be so clear that your correspondents won't see the difference between your telephone line and a line that operates by cable or a traditional connection.
