Connecting S-VIDEO

If your equipment is fairly new, it may have a Separate Video (S-Video) terminal. You can easily find out if your unit has an S-Video terminal:

Television: there is an S-Video terminal on the back panel.
VCR: there should be two S-Video terminals, IN and OUT.

If only your TV has an S-Video input:

  • Connect the EXPLORER® 2000's S-Video output to the TV's S-Video input.
  • If the VCR is mono (no RCA cables between the VCR and TV)

  • Set your TV to LINE mode to watch a program through the digital terminal.
  • Tune the TV to channel 3 to watch a videotape.
  • If the VCR is stereo (RCA cables between the VCR and TV)

  • Set your TV and VCR to LINE mode.
  • When you only want to watch a videotape, you must unplug the S-Video cable from the TV.
  • If your TV is equipped with an S-Video input AND your VCR has S-Video inputs and outputs

  • Connect EXPLORER® 2000's S-Video output to the VCR's S-Video input.
  • Connect the VCR's S-Video output to the TV's S-Video input.
  • Set your VCR and TV to LINE mode.
  • If only your VCR has S-Video inputs and outputs

  • Connect EXPLORER® 2000's S-Video output to the VCR's S-Video input.
  • Set the VCR to LINE mode.

note: Make sure you use an S-Video cable when making this connection. But be careful, as these cables look like standard RCA cables. It is important to use good quality S-Video cables. Some S-Video cables on the market are so poorly designed that they even give results that are inferior to a standard RCA cable.
To benefit from S-Video, your VCR and/or TV must be set to LINE mode. The unit will automatically detect that an S-Video cable has been connected to the terminal and will switch to S-Video mode. If RCA and S-Video cables are found on the same device and the device is in LINE mode, the S-Video will be selected by default. For additional information, refer to your equipment's operating manuals.
