Xbox Live games are nothing like any online game you’ve ever experienced before. There are no pop-up ads, no delays, and no hackers or obstacles to step between you and your gaming experience.With Xbox and Xbox Live you control a world of gaming possibilities.
Connecting the Xbox console to the cable modem. There are two ways of connecting your Xbox:
- A direct connection is very simple but doesn’t allow your Xbox and your computer to share Internet access. Whenever you want to connect your computer to the Internet, you’ll have to disconnect your Ethernet cable from the Xbox console and reconnect it to the computer.
- A router connection requires more equipment but allows your computer and your Xbox console to share an Internet connection.

Direct connection - Equipment needed
- High speed Internet connection with cable modem
- 1 standard RJ-45 Ethernet cable
- Xbox video game console
- Xbox Live Starter Kit

- If you have previously used the Xbox console, make sure there is no disc in the drive.
- Switch off your modem, Xbox console and television.
- Connect the modem’s coaxial cable to the wall socket.
- Turn on the modem, the TV and the Xbox console. A menu will appear on the TV screen.
- Select Xbox Live. If you see « Connected to Xbox Live » on your screen, your connection has been successful. Select NEW ACCOUNT and follow the instructions on the screen to sign up.
If an error message appears, your connection has failed. Consult the Troubleshooting Direct Connection section.

Router Connection - Equipment Required
- High speed Internet connection with cable modem
- 3 standard RJ-45 Ethernet cables
- Cable router
- Computer with an Ethernet card
- Xbox video game console
- Xbox Live Starter Kit
- If you have previously used your Xbox console, make sure there is no disc in the make sure there is no disc in the drive.
- Switch off your modem, router, computer, Xbox console and television set.
- Connect one end of the first Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your modem and the other end to the WAN port on the router.
- Connect one end of the second Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your computer and the other end to a LAN port on the router.
- Connect one end of the third Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your Xbox and the other end to a LAN port on the router.
- Connect the modem’s coaxial cable to the wall socket.
- Turn on the modem, the router and the computer.
- Make sure that you can connect to the Internet with your computer. If you cannot, read the instructions that came with your router to configure it using your computer.
- Once you are able to connect to the Internet with your computer, turn on your TV and Xbox console; a menu will appear on the TV screen.
- Select Xbox Live. If you see «Connected to Xbox Live» on your screen, your connection has been successful. Select NEW ACCOUNT and follow the instructions on the screen to sign up.
If an error message appears, your connection has failed. Consult the Troubleshooting Router Connection section.
Note : You do not have to turn on your computer to access Xbox Live.

Troubleshooting - Direct Connection
- Make sure all cables are properly connected.
- Make sure the modem, TV and Xbox console are switched on.
- Make sure there is no disc in the Xbox console’s drive.
Once you have checked the above, if the Xbox Live menu still does not appear:
- Turn off all peripherals.
- Remove the Ethernet cable from the Xbox and insert it into the Ethernet port on your computer.
- Turn on the modem and start up your computer.
If you can connect to the Internet:
The problem is with your Xbox console. See the instructions that came with your Xbox console and make sure it is properly connected to your TV.
If you cannot connect to the Internet:
The problem is with the modem or with the network. Contact Technical Support.
Troubleshooting—Router Connection
- Make sure all cables are properly connected.
- Make sure the modem, router, TV and Xbox console are connected to each other and switched on.
- Make sure there is no disc in the Xbox console’s drive.
Once you have checked the above, if the Xbox Live menu still does not appear, turn off all peripherals, disconnect the router and try the following direct connection to isolate the origin of the problem:
- With a single Ethernet cable, connect the Ethernet port on the modem to the Ethernet port on the game console.
- Connect the modem’s coaxial cable to the wall socket.
- Turn on the modem, TV and Xbox console; a menu will appear.
- Select Xbox Live.
If you can see the Xbox Live menu:
The problem is with your router. In this case, see the instructions that came with your router and configure it properly.
If you cannot see the Xbox Live menu:
- Turn off all peripherals.
- Remove the Ethernet cable from the Xbox console and plug it into the Ethernet port on your computer.
- Turn on the modem and the computer.
If you can connect to the Internet:
The problem is with your Xbox console. See the instructions that came with your Xbox console and make sure it is properly connected to your TV.
If you cannot connect to the Internet:
The problem is with your modem or with the network. Contact Technical Support.
