Quick troubleshooting

Problem with image or sound

All the channels are snowy; but reception on channel 3 and 27 and up is fine

If you see a snowy image on all channels except channel 3, and channel 27 and up, you may have a VCR connected to the TV. Be sure to do the following:

  • Locate the cable wire coming from the wall directly behind the TV and connect it to cable in.
  • If the problem persists, program the channels using the programming function on your TV's menu. To find this menu function, see the owner's guide for your TV.
  • If the problem persists after you've reprogrammed the channels on the TV, we advise you to have your TV checked.

Reception of channels 2, 6, 7 and 17 is not clear, rather snowy

If you notice a deterioration in reception of channels 2, 6, 7 and 17:

1. Check whether the cable wire is firmly screwed into the wall outlet and inserted into the appropriate connector at the back of the TV or VCR.
2. If the problem persists, contact technical support.

A blue screen is appearing on all the channels, or the image is blurry, snowy or grainy. What should I do?

  • Make sure all the connections are secure.
  • Connect the cable directly to the television.
  • If the problem continues, please contact one of our Technical Support agents at 1-877-380-2611.

A black rectangle appears on screen when I'm watching certain channels

A black rectangle in the TV screen means that your TV's closed-caption function is activated. You need to deactivate it. To find this menu function, see the owner's guide for your TV.

The sound on my television keeps going off or doesn't correspond to the image. What should I do?

  • Check the volume level.
  • Make sure the "mute" function isn't engaged.
  • The SAP (Second Audio Program) function might be activated. If your remote control has a SAP or Audio button, press it to deactivate the function. Search the menus of your television for the SAP function and deactivate it.
  • In all cases, refer to your television's owner's manual.
  • If none of these suggestions work, please contact the technical support centre for your television manufacturer.

All the channels I get are rather snowy

1.Check whether the cable wire coming from the wall is firmly screwed to the wall outlet and inserted into the appropriate location on the back of the TV.
2. If you have added one or more TVs yourself by using a splitter, remove the splitter. Connect the cable wire coming from the wall directly into the cable in jack on your TV.
3. If the problem persists, contact technical support.

Installation

Connecting a second TV to the classic cable service

It is essential you inform Vidéotron about the addition of one or more TV sets to your regular outlet so as to standardize these additional connections. If you fail to do so, you slightly alter the cable signal you receive and obtain poor reception on all your TV sets.

Recording a TV channel with my VCR

Here is a simple way to connect a VCR to record your favourite channels.

1. Connect the cable wire coming from the wall into the cable in jack on your VCR.
2. Using another cable wire, connect your VCR to the TV. Connect one end of the cable into cable out on your VCR and the other end into cable in on your TV.
3. Turn on your VCR.
4. Tune your TV to channel 3.
5. Use your VCR remote control to change channels.

You can record the channel you are watching or you can program your VCR to record a channel at a date and time of your choosing. Please note that when your VCR is turned on, your TV must always be tuned to channel 3.

What is the best way to connect the cable to my television or VCR?

  • Connect the coaxial cable from the wall to "cable in" on your VCR.
  • With another coaxial cable, connect your VCR to your television. Connect one end of the cable to "cable out" on your VCR, and the other end to "cable in" on your television.
  • Turn on your VCR.
  • Tune to channel 3 on your television.
  • Change the channel using the VCR remote control.

Accessibility chains

My television only gets channels 2 to 13. What should I do?

  • On your remote control, press the "CATV", "AIR/CABLE" or "ANT/CABLE" button. A message will appear on the screen. Hold the button down until the message "CATV-STD" or "CABLE" appears. The modes "CATV-HRC" and "CATV-IRC" are incompatible with cable.
  • Check the back of your television, near the cable input, to see if you have a converter. If so, set it to "CABLE".
  • In your television menus, look for the "Tuning", "Tuning mode", "Setup", "Air/Cable" or "CATV" option.
  • After reactivating the "CATV" function, you might have to reprogram the channels with your television's "Auto-Prog" or "Auto-Scan" function to restore the channels to memory.
  • In all cases, refer to your television's user manual.
  • If these measures don't work, please contact the technical support centre for your television manufacturer

A channel that I had before is no longer available. Is this normal?

  • The channel line-up can vary depending on the location or region where you live.
  • The digital positioning of the station broadcasting the channel can change within the same city.

Please consult the channel line-up of your region.

I no longer get the Évasion, Séries+, Historia, Ztélé and CNN channels

Check the details of your last invoice and the package you subscribe to. If you have the Télémax package (not Télémax Plus), the Évasion, Séries+, Historia, Ztélé and CNN channels are not included in your current package. If you would like to have them added to your Télémax package, contact customer service.

If Télémax Plus is shown on your invoice and you cannot access these channels, please inform technical support.
