Questions?

Is the service compatible with my home alarm system connected to a remote surveillance centre?

Vidéotron telephone service is compatible with the majority of alarm systems on the market. Our technicians routinely ascertain compatibility before installing the telephone service.

Can I move my multifunction cable modem from one place to another in my house?

If your home is equipped with an alarm system connected to a remote surveillance centre, you should not make any changes to your telephone installation. Changing Vidéotron telephone installation could prevent your alarm system from working properly. Before making any changes, always contact our Technical Support Department at 1-877-380-2611.

Can I relocate my multifunction cable modem to another address?

No. Under clause 4.3 of Vidéotron telephone service agreement, it is forbidden to relocate your multifunction cable modem to another address. In addition, because 911 emergency calls are routed through the modem, relocating it to another address could put your family’s life in danger.

What is involved in installing Vidéotron telephone service?

There are four possible scenarios:

Scenario 1: You subscribed to Vidéotron telephone service but did not subscribe to any other Vidéotron service. Your existing telephone network is linked to Vidéotron multifunction cable modem.

Scenario 2: You subscribed to Vidéotron telephone service, as well as to one of our cable Internet services. We will replace your current modem with Vidéotron multifunction cable modem. Your telephone and computer will then be linked to this modem.

Scenario 3: You subscribed to Vidéotron telephone service and to either Vidéotron digital television or classic cable. We will supply the Vidéotron multifunction cable modem through which your existing telephone network will be linked.

Scenario 4: You subscribed to Vidéotron telephone service, cable Internet, and digital television. We will replace your current modem (used for Internet) by a multifunction cable modem that will provide you with telephone service and Internet access. Nothing changes for the digital television. You retain your Illico user terminal.

Note: The multifunction cable modem can supply two separate telephone lines in addition to the cable Internet access. It is also compatible with all residential alarm systems.

What purpose does the multifunction cable modem serve?

The multifunction cable modem is an essential component of your telephone service. It can supply two separate phone lines in addition to the cable Internet access.

What are the connections found on the rear panel of the multifunction cable modem?

The multifunction cable modem includes the connections required to hook up two separate phone lines, a computer for Internet service using an ethernet or USB cable, a power source, and a Vidéotron cable.

What are the buttons and indicator lights found on the front panel of the multifunction cable modem?

The front panel of the modem is equipped with a Standby button and indicator lights to show the status of the modem. The Standby button suspends the Internet link without cutting off the telephone link.

What happens in the event of a power outage?

In the event of a power failure, the battery takes over to supply the modem with electricity. The power indicator light will flash. The telephone indicator lights remain lit, but the other indicator lights will be off. Data transfer via the Internet network is automatically interrupted by the modem to save the battery for the telephone link. The battery will maintain telephone service for about 8 hours, depending on the extent of use during that time. To prepare for such an event, the modem automatically checks the battery at regular intervals.
