Limitations of USB technology

Like other technology, USB technology has evolved in recent years. There are currently two versions of USB technology, i.e. versions 1.1 and 2.0.

Even though version 1.1 supports a theoretical maximum throughput of 12 Mbps, practical tests have shown it to effectively be 5 Mbps. It is accordingly unable to reach the maximum speeds of our High-Speed, Extreme High-Speed and Extreme Plus High-Speed Internet services.

USB 2.0, on the other hand, has a theoretical throughput of 480 Mbps. However, in spite of the significant increase in throughput compared to version 1.1, you may still not reach the maximum speeds of these services due to limitations related to other computer components of your system.

The optimal type of connection continues to be a time-tested technology, i.e. a standard Category 5 RJ-45 cable (minimum) connected to an Ethernet 10/100 network card (where 100 means 100 Mbps).
