Installing the USB interface on Windows 2000
If you plug the SMC USB adapter into your USB port and nothing happens, your operating system most likely has problems managing the USB port. Please go to the Troubleshooting section.
The driver (SMCUSB.SYS) on the SMC diskette was designed to work with the EZ Connect USB Fast Ethernet adapter, SMC2202USB/ETH.
The driver (SMCUSB.SYS) meets "Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) 5.0" standards, and can be used with the Microsoft Windows 98, Windows Millenium and Microsoft Windows 2000 operating systems.
Plug the USB SMC2202USB/ETH adapter into one of your computer's USB ports.
Power on your computer and launch Microsoft Windows 2000. You must have Local Administrator rights to complete the installation.
When Microsoft Windows displays the Found New Hardware Wizard window, click on Next.

Windows 2000 will confirm that the driver is on your floppy disk drive (A:) or on your CD-ROM drive. Click on Next, and Windows 2000 will copy the driver (SMCUSB.SYS) to the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM directory and the file (SMCUSB.INF) to the the C:\WINNT\INF directory.

When Windows 2000 displays the Digital Signature Not Found window, click on Yes to continue installing the "EZ Connect USB/Ethernet Converter" driver.

Windows 2000 will confirm installation with Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard. To finish installation, click on Finish.

Once installation is complete, you must change some connection settings.
First, go to Network and dial-up connection in your Control Panel, and remove the checkmark next to Client for Microsoft Networks as well as Files and Printers sharing.

Second, select Internet Protocole (TCP/IP) and click on Properties. Next, click on Advanced.
Under the DNS tab, remove the checkmark from Register this connection's addresses in DNS. Once you have completed everything, click on OK in all open windows.
