Eagle Eye Solutions and Videotron Business are two local businesses with complementary expertise and a common vision. Discover how our Internet of Things (IoT) know-how helps us contribute to the success of this client-turned-business-partner!

"Our solutions communicate data continuously in a wide variety of environments. We were therefore seeking a partner who could offer a robust and reliable connection, whether in the warehouse, at the office, in the backyard, or even on less frequented roads. Our efficiency relies on the network: Videotron Business allows our software to operate at full capacity.”

For more than 20 years now, Québec company Eagle Eye Solutions has been designing technological tools for each link in the logistical chain: storage, movement in the yard, dispatching, transportation, and administrative management. “We develop them to help support our clients’ operational processes and provide them with continuous visibility of their activities,” says Dany Raymond, President of the company.

A context that’s conducive to change

The relationship dates back 10 years. “At the time, we were seeking a network partner that could evolve at our pace, without knowing when this partnership would eventually grow,” Dany Raymond recalls.

Videotron Business would initially provide cellular connectivity for tracking the truck fleets managed by Eagle Eye Solutions, via non-shareable data plans. “At the time, we needed to handle SIM card orders manually, and activate the plans internally, one at a time, over and over again” Charles Coutu, Business, Mobility, and Internet of Things Product Development Manager at Videotron Business, chimes in.

The customer could therefore count on connectivity, but with no visibility of the network status or data usage, for example. Once the Videotron Business IoT platform became available, the managers at Eagle Eye Solutions did not hesitate to take the leap. Not only could they automate the entire process associated with SIM card management, but the significant benefits of the IoT were also right around the corner …

“In our sector, the method used for deploying and managing SIM cards can truly make life easier … or harder! At the beginning, it was all done by email: orders, plan changes, creation of customer accounts, and even requests for reports. We were a long way from the freedom we now have thanks to the Videotron Business IoT platform.”

Needs analysis

The needs analysis performed by the multidisciplinary team at Videotron Business highlights two key elements. The first imperative: ensure interconnection between the “home” platform used by the customer to manage their fleet of vehicles and the Videotron Business IoT platform.

Another element would also be crucial to the operation’s success: an open infrastructure. The managers at Eagle Eye Solutions need to be able to count on a development tool alongside the evolution of their own platform.

And there is no doubling the tasks, despite the presence of two complementary platforms. The client wants to be able to work directly from their portal to complete different operations. “Our IoT platform is integrated in the background, which allows Eagle Eye Solutions to activate the SIM cards via their own interface, assign them to equipment, and choose the desired data plans,” Francis Miron Diaz, Account Director at Videotron Business, sums up.

Dany Raymond appreciates this attention to detail. “Service and customer experience are very important to us, and that’s exactly the same at Videotron Business. Our approaches are identical: human, personalized, and centred on each customer’s needs.”

The solution deployed

The Videotron Business IoT connection platform was designed to make organizations more autonomous in the deployment of connected objects. The user interface offers secure cellular connectivity, fast integration into IoT applications, and optimized management—purchase, activation, and suspension—of SIM cards.

“It allows customers to manage the connectivity of their fleet of connected objects. Featuring a simple interface and integration capacities, this connection platform allows partners such as Eagle Eye Solutions to integrate their apps and sensors into their business processes,” explains Bruno Crispin, Senior Marketing Director, Product, Innovation, and Partnerships.

And contrary to competitors’ solutions, which may be lacking in flexibility, this unique, evolving platform offers a comprehensive component for integrations into the customer’s systems, complete automation and personalization of operations, as well as the possibility to enjoy new features on an ongoing basis.

“Videotron Business offers extended coverage across North America, beyond its owner network, thanks to an IoT cellular connection and cloud-based security based on LTE, LTE-M, and 5G technologies. Our clients therefore enjoy full visibility and reinforced security for all their connected objects,” explains Stéphane Leduc, Senior Manager, Sales, Mobility, and IoT at Videotron Business.

This ecosystem transformed the company’s day-to-day. “The management of SIM cards became simple, quick, and efficient overnight. Good thing, because several of our clients often require large-scale deployments, sometimes as high as thousands of vehicles in a very short span!” Sean Quesnel exclaims.

Benefits following implementation

Charles Coutu, from Videotron Business, highlights the many benefits of this technology. “The IoT allows clients to manage connectivity themselves through the Connectivity as a Service (IoT CaaS) mode, and to have total control over usage fees, automate the activation of SIM cards and adjustments to plans, as well as to see the network’s status in real time, via SIM,” he sums up.

Not only is the SIM card process now automated, but the significant advantages of the IoT now allow Eagle Eye Solutions to maximize the mount and speed of data shared. And your business can benefit as well. Here’s how:

Connected asset tracking

Whether you manage vehicles, trailers, or any other type of motorized equipment—all critical assets—the use of GPS sensors allows you to have an accurate view of their position, status, and use. The IoT connection of a fleet of vehicles provides all the data that will allow you to make decisions and automate maintenance.

Automated incident detection and contextualization

If you run a busy warehouse or logistics centre, the safety of your facilities and employees is a priority. With intelligent impact detection, you receive real-time alerts, accompanied by video and environmental data. Automate monitoring and contextualization, reduce the risk of accidents, and redefine what safety means. Discover the Smart Lifts solution here.

Supervision of your transport, delivery, and service calls operations

In the road sector, whether it's transport, delivery, taxi, or service calls, each stop or intervention may require different information. With our fully customizable dynamic approach, you can configure workflows adapted to each type of service offered. Whether it's for express delivery or specialized work, you can manage the capture of relevant data: service time, travel expenses, mileage, equipment used, all with electronic signature, document scanning, or photo capture. The data is then transmitted and organized in real-time to generate clear reports and fast, accurate billing.

Automatically schedule vehicle maintenance

Do you want to better manage your yards, warehouses, and loading docks? Give your teams real-time visibility of inventory, door statuses, and vehicle movements. Coordinate your operations from a centralized calendar, while improving fluidity between offices, forklift operators, and your external customers.

Secure, cross-platform digital communication

If your teams need to stay in touch at all times, in the field or in a dispatch centre, Push to Talk communication is your best ally. With a simple and secure mobile approach, exchange text and voice messages, locate your employees, and get real-time translations and communication history on any device.

Next steps

Both parties still have work to do together. “Our two organizations share the same goal : to put customers at the heart of our concerns. Building and offering innovative solutions to businesses in Québec and Canada in order to increase their productivity is no doubt a part of our DNA,” says Bruno Crispin.

Initially a client, Eagle Eye Solutions has completely become a partner now. This business relationship offers a ton of possibilities to develop the IoT market in different industries. “Our collaboration meets the needs of our customers wishing to extend the use of the IoT to other operational areas,” explains Charles Coutu.

And for Bruno Crispin, the next steps being considered with Eagle Eye Solutions look very promising. “What we’re truly aiming to achieve together is growth. Our platform, networks, and agreements allow our partners to meet our customers’ needs all over North America, in transportation ad several other areas of activity.”

What does this most recent success story reveal? That a business with the means to transform raw data into useful information probably has a competitive edge. So, are you ready to embark on the IoT adventure? Contact the Videotron Business team today to discuss your project and the possibilities available to you.
