Success story: the impact of an optimized Internet connection on Groupe Evoludev

Videotron Business, which already serves several clients in the multi-dwelling property industry, was then called in to save the day. They were asked to set up a dedicated Internet access in 1,000 rental units in no less than 50 buildings, and to do so in record time.

Stéphane Lalande, Account Manager at Videotron Business, came prepared for the first explanatory meeting between the two parties. “It’s crucial to fully understand the client’s needs and to assess any technical issues in order to then find the best tailor-made solution to deploy,” he explains.

Quickly expanding, Groupe Evoludev has many buildings in several regions. “First, we had to make sure each of these locations could be connected to our network beforehand. Next, it was crucial to find a solution for connecting the new tenants, who would soon be moving into their apartments, to Videotron Business Internet,” he says.

And it was quite the challenge! The Videotron Business teams had to connect several projects simultaneously, in a short lapse of time. Plus, they had to ensure tenants would not experience any service interruptions during the change in providers.

Groupe Evoludev tenants did not have a dedicated Internet access before. And the quality and performance of a shared Internet access are not optimal. Things should improve now!

“A shared Wi-Fi is not optimal for multi-dwelling properties. Inversely, a dedicated network offers several advantages, including simplified operations for real estate developers,” explains Emylie Lebeau, Project Manager at Videotron Business. And residents are also very pleased!

Emylie and Stéphane are confident that the contribution of other Videotron Business employees was essential to the operation’s success. “Our multidisciplinary team made this project possible,” confirms the account manager.

The solution was deployed in several steps:

Rigorous planning, to define the schedules and set up a list of priority buildings, was done beforehand to limit potential issues when deploying the tailor-made solution. Thanks to this good planning, tenants did not endure long Internet service interruptions, as Videotron Business was able to restore the connection quickly following the change in provider. A dedicated Internet connection for each tenant was used to replace the shared Wi-Fi solution offered by the previous provider.

A dedicated call-back team was also set up. These Videotron Business employees connect tenants to the Internet, further facilitating management for the real estate developer. The rental agents indicate the addresses where connections could be made in a virtual portal designed specifically for this purpose. The Videotron Business call-back team then contacts the tenants in question. More than 750 requests have been made on the platform since it launched in early 2024.

A temporary backup solution was also needed. Several occupants didn’t have Internet access when the internal Videotron Business team got involved in the project. Videotron’s wireless LTE network was therefore temporarily put at tenants’ disposal until the technicians could bring the network to the buildings. A total of 40 LTE modems were loaned for the temporary solution.

Videotron Business wants to be a technological facilitator to allow businesses to focus on their own development plan. “Our clients’ success is always our main concern,” Stéphane Lalande reiterates.

More positive points also emerged from this first collaboration. “There was an immediate reduced workload for our teams. The rental management employees quickly noted fewer service calls, allowing them to focus on other added-value tasks for our tenants,” she adds.

And of course, we should also mention the profitability of such an operation in the long-term. “The rates at Videotron Business are competitive rates, but their speed of execution was a defining factor. Their network had to be installed in more than 1,000 rental units in no less than 50 buildings to ensure our tenants could count on reliable Internet.”

An impressive agility. “Normally, these types are projects are managed one address at a time, but in this case, there were multiple needs. All the more important to keep communication channels with our client open, to adequately define priorities and avoid any delays,” says Stéphane Lalande.
