Understanding Videotron Take-back Credit program

What is Take-back Credit program?

With the Take-back Credit program, you get a credit on your monthly payments for 24 months when you commit to returning your device, in good condition, at the end of that period.

When your agreement ends, bring your mobile phone back to the store. A representative will have a look at it to make sure it meets the return criteria.

How can I get a Take-back Credit?

The credit is available to anyone who purchases an eligible device and chooses the Simplified Payment option.

Return conditions

See the requirements for returning your device as part of the Take-back Credit Program.

The mobile device must not have any chips, scratches (nail depth) or cracks on the front screen and casing
The device must not have any drop marks
The device structure, casing, and connector must not show signs of damage
The screen glass must not be loose
All parts of the device must be present and must be original parts
The device must not show any signs of liquid damage—no LCI should be tripped
The device must have a battery and the battery must not be swollen
The battery cover must be present
The device must not have been customized (no paint or stickers)
The device must pass key functionality tests (power, home buttons, display, charging port, camera)
The device’s screen must not have any halos or white dots, and must not be discoloured
The device must not have been jailbroken or rooted

Once you’ve turned in your mobile phone to Videotron, it will be refurbished and sold, giving it a new life.

What happens if my device is damaged?

If you are enrolled in the Mobile Device Protection Program you can have your phone repaired or replaced before returning it.

If you are not enrolled in a protection program, you have three options:

Have the phone repaired at your expense so that it meets the return conditions
Pay a wear-and-tear fee, based on observed breakage when returning the device
Keep the device and pay the full Take-back Credit amount at the end of the agreement

Preparing the device for return

Disable the activation lock (FMiP, Android lock, etc.).
Disable the screen lock, PIN, or password lock.
Reset the device to erase all your data.

Take-back Credit program on my invoice

The Videotron Take-back Credit program appears on your invoice in the Simplified Payment option section.

The Take-back Credit is not taxable, and is therefore applied to the balance of the device, which is divided into 24 months.

When can I choose Take-back Credit?

When purchasing your new device with the Simplified Payment option, you can choose the Take-back Credit program.

Are all devices eligible for Take-back Credit?

Most of our devices are eligible for Take-back Credit, but not all. You can find them easily, as they mention “Take-back Credit” on our Mobile page.

Can I keep my phone at the end of my 24-month agreement?

Yes, but you will have to repay the full amount of the credit allotted as part of the Take-back Credit program.

What happens with the Take-back Credit if I terminate my agreement with Videotron before the end of the 24-month period?

If you terminate your agreement before the end of the 24-month period, you will have the option to:

keep your device and repay the full amount of the Take-back Credit

return your device to a Videotron store without repaying the amount of the Take-back Credit, if the device meets the return conditions.

In all cases, you will have to pay the full amount of your remaining Simplified Payment option.

What happens with the Take-back Credit if my phone breaks?

If you are enrolled in the Mobile Device Protection Program, you can have your phone repaired or replaced. You will continue to take advantage of the Take-back Credit each month, and can return your device at the end of the 24-month period. If you do not have a protection program, you have three options:

Have the phone repaired at your own expense and continue to take advantage of the Take-back Credit for the rest of the agreement
Pay a wear-and-tear fee, based on observed breakage, when returning the device at the end of the agreement
Do not have the device repaired, pay the full Take-back Credit amount at the end of the agreement, and keep the device

What happens with the Take-back Credit if I lose my phone?

If you lose your phone or have it stolen from you, you will be required to pay back the entire Take-back Credit amount. Also note that loss and theft are not covered by Videotron’s Mobile Device Protection Program. Read our tips in case your phone is lost or stolen.

How do I return my device at the end of the 24-month period as part of the Take-back Credit program?

Simply stop by any Videotron store with your mobile phone within 30 days of the end of the agreement. One of our representatives will have a look at it to make sure it meets the return criteria.
