How to use VoLTE feature on mobile

The VoLTE feature allows you to make calls and send and receive text messages via the LTE network.

Important :

Canada’s 3G network is being gradually phased out. This situation will affect telecommunications providers across the country. For you, it means your device and SIM card will have to be VoLTE capable to connect to the mobile network. A notification has been or will be sent to you if you need to change your device or SIM card. Learn more about the 3G network shutdown.

Travel to the US:  The US 3G networks are already out of service. To use your device south of the border, it must be VoLTE capable (for calling and texting) and LTE capable (for mobile data).

Advantages of LTE technology

Compared to past generation networks, LTE technology offers the following improvements:

  • Much faster download/upload speeds
  • Better network response time
  • End-to-end IP-based data transfer, including calls and text messages for VoLTE-enabled devices

That makes for a much more user-friendly experience with:

  • Fluid mobile apps
  • Excellent video quality (HD video uses 30 MB of data for every viewing minute, requiring fast download speeds)
  • Quick webpage display
  • Ability to share much larger files (i.e. videos)
  • Fluid video chatting without interruptions

Benefits specific to the VoLTE feature

  • Reduced interruptions when switching from the Videotron network to a partner network
  • HD audio quality for calls between Videotron customers in Canada and the United States
  • Much faster call routing
  • Possibility of using the Wi-Fi Calling service
