A Philippe Falardeau documentary series on the Lac-Mégantic tragedy
Philippe Falardeau paints a unique, rigorous, and sensitive picture of the train disaster that took 47 innocent victims from their community and incinerated the heart of their city centre. The series clearly demonstrates that this event was not just an unfortunate accident. Through touching testimonies and the words of locals, some of which have never been heard before, the director traces the itinerary of a time bomb and tells the story of how, ten years later, the citizens of Lac-Mégantic are still suffering the consequences. The series lifts the veil on the impunity of the railway companies and the laissez-faire attitude of the federal government. It shows that, despite the deaths, nothing has really changed. The oil trains continue to run unchecked, threatening our downtown districts every day.
