What is a modem?
The modem is provided by Videotron when you subscribe to an Internet plan. It’s the basic equipment that allows your devices to connect to and communicate with Videotron’s network. Since they don’t speak the same computer language, your modem, from the coaxial cable, converts the signal coming into your home into an Ethernet connection. This makes it possible to connect the Wi-Fi router or a computer.
How do I connect my modem?
- Screw the coaxial cable firmly to the modem (depending on your installation, the other end of the coaxial cable can be connected to a wall outlet or come directly out of the wall).
- Connect the power supply provided to the modem and then to a power outlet.
- The Ethernet cable must be connected to the modem and in the WAN port on the back of your router. If you do not have a router, connect it directly to a computer.
It may take about 5 minutes to initialize the modem. In the meantime, find out how to complete the connection of your router, if you have one, and learn more about the steps to connect it.
