Configuring the language and the audio format
Configure the menu language, activate secondary audio programming (SAP) in one of the available languages and choose the audio format.
Changing the menu language
With Helix TV, the choice of display language also changes the language of the voice search and the date display format. These settings can be modified after changing the language.
- Press the HELIX button on your remote and select .
- Select Language > Language > English or French.
- Select OK to confirm.
Good to know
Warning : Please note that although Spanish is available in the choices, the language is not officially supported. Some terms may be missing. If Spanish has been accidentally chosen, you can return to the language settings using the “idioma” or “language” voice command.
Choosing the audio format
Choose how the sound is transmitted from your terminal to your television or audio system.
- Press the HELIX button on your remote and select .
- Then select Device Settings > Audio > HDMI Audio Output and confirm.
- Choose between Stereo, Auto Detect or Expert Mode then press the middle button to confirm.
- When you’re done, press Exit.
- Stereo: The audio format will be in PCM stereo
- Auto Detect: The terminal negotiates with the TV/audio system the best possible format; the format used is displayed in parentheses
- Expert Mode: The terminal sends the audio format broadcast by the channel (Passthrough)
Choosing the audio language
Listen to your TV content in another language when it’s available.
- While watching a program, press down arrow .
- Select SAP.
- Choose the preferred language as a secondary audio programming, then press the middle button to confirm.
- When you’re done, press Exit.
To reset the secondary audio programming settings, press the HELIX button and select > Devices Settings > Audio > Audio Language (SAP) Reset.
Connecting Bluetooth devices
Warning : The Helix TV terminal isn’t compatible with all Bluetooth devices. If you have sound bars or a speaker system, it’s best to connect them directly to your TV.
You can pair up to seven Bluetooth devices to the Helix TV terminal, but only one device at a time can be connected to the terminal and play the audio. You control the volume through the Bluetooth device, not the terminal.
To pair a device, activate its Bluetooth mode. Using voice command, say “Bluetooth” and then choose the device you want to connect.
You can also use the buttons on your remote:
- Press the HELIX button on your remote and select .
- Select Device Settings, Audio, then Bluetooth Devices and confirm.
- Choose the Bluetooth device you want to connect.
- When you’re done, press Exit.
When you connect a Bluetooth device to your Helix TV terminal, the sound will play through your TV speakers as well as your Bluetooth device. Mute your TV to hear your Bluetooth device speakers only.
Changing the screen resolution
Choosing the video output resolution
- Press the HELIX button on your remote and select .
- Use the arrow to select Device Settings > Video Display > Video Output Resolution.
- Use the and arrows to select your desired resolution and confirm.
- You can also toggle the zoom between Full and None, and then press Exit.
It is recommended to select the resolution with the “Best Available” mention for an optimal result.
Auto-tuning to HD channels
To make sure you always get the best picture quality possible, you can set your system to auto-tune to HD channels when you’re searching for or tuning in to a channel.
- Press the HELIX button on your remote and select , then Preferences.
- Select General, then Prefer Best Available Resolution. Press the middle button to enable or disable this feature.
- When you’re done, press Exit.
Enabling or disabling power saver mode
Good to know
- Press the HELIX button on your remote and select , then Device Settings.
- Select Power Preferences, then use the down arrow to select Power Saver mode and enable or disable it.
- When you’re done, press Exit.
Setting up the screen saver
It’s easy to change the screen saver theme and the time it takes for it to appear when the system is inactive.
Configuring the screen saver
- Press the HELIX button on your remote, select .
- Use arrow to select Device Settings, then Screen Saver.
- Select Screen Saver Type to choose your preferred theme.
- Press the middle button to confirm.
Adjusting when your screen saver appears
- Select Screen Saver Starts After.
- Choose when the screen saver will start—after 5, 15, 30 minutes or 5 hours of inactivity.
- Press the middle button to confirm.
Frequently asked questions about managing Helix TV settings
- Press the HELIX button on your voice remote.
- Select using the arrows.
- Select Device Settings.
- Select Device Name.
- Choose one of the suggested names.
To choose a name other than those suggested, select Custom name, and use the letters on the keyboard to name your device. Select Confirm to save the change.
You can set notifications to appear on your TV to get updates on sports, your account activity or other news about your services.
- While watching a program, press arrow .
- The notification window appears. Click on Notification Settings to enable or disable notifications.
- When you’re done, press Exit.
You can easily access closed caption settings on all Helix platforms.
- Press the HELIX button on your voice remote.
- Select , using the arrows.
- Select Privacy.
The Recommendation Based on Viewing History feature is not deployed. Turning it on or off has no effect.
Viewing History
The following sections disappear when this feature is disabled :
- Saved → For You → Recently Seen.
- The remote button no longer displays the last channels tuned.
Voice guidance
When this feature is disabled, voice search will no longer work.
Local storage cookies and data
This feature allows the deletion of metadata and other “cookie” files.
To adjust the intensity of the LED in front of your terminal, follow these steps :
- Press the HELIX button on your remote, select .
- Use arrow to select Device Settings, then Device Lights.
- Select Power Light Brightness and set the desired brightness with the and arrows. The higher the number, the brighter the LED.
- Press the middle button to confirm. The power light will dim or grow brighter as you change its settings.
- When you’re done, press Exit.
To select the default Guide view:
- Press the HELIX button on your remote, select then confirm.
- Then select Preferences > General > Default Guide View and choose from the following options:
- All Channels
- Free to Me
- HD Channels
- Free
- Favourites
- Trending
- Movies
- Sports
- Kids
To change the background darkness level:
- Press the HELIX button on your remote, select then confirm.
- Then select Preferences > General > Background Darkness Level
- Use the and arrows to choose your preferred darkness level, then press the middle button to confirm.
- When you’re done, press Exit.
