Closed captions, intended for hearing-impaired people, are subtitles that appear on the screen while you watch TV. The text offers an abbreviated version of the onscreen actors’ dialogue, as well as a description of important sound effects. Look for CC or STC to see if a content has captions.
Enabling or disabling closed captioning on the illico TV New Generation terminal
While watching a program
- Press the green diamond D button on your remote to display the options.
- Using the arrows
, select More options.
- Select Closed Captioning.
- Select On, On with Mute, or Off, as needed.
In the Accessibility Settings
- Press the yellow triangle A button on your remote to display the Settings and applications menu.
- Select Settings.
- Using the arrows
, select Accessibility.
- Select Closed Captioning (CC).
- Press OK/SELECT and choose an option between On, On with Mute, or Off, as needed.
To configure the style of subtitles, turn on closed captioning first, then select Customized in the Style of subtitles field. You can then choose the background style of the screen and the closed captions mode. Generally, channels broadcast the subtitles in Std CC1 and Digital 1 mode.

On mobile or tablet
- When watching content, tap the CC icon at the bottom right of the playback bar to enable or disable closed captioning.
On the Web
- When watching content, tap the
icon at the bottom right of the playback bar.
- Select an option to enable or disable closed captioning.
Enabling or disabling closed captioning on the illico TV First Generation terminal
- Press your remote SETTINGS button to bring up the Quick Settings menu.
- Using the arrows
, scroll down through the menu and select Caption Off/On.
- Select On, On with Mute, or Off, as needed, then press OK/SELECT to confirm.
To change how the subtitles are displayed, press SETTINGS a second time to open the General Settings menu. Scroll through the menu and select one of the following subtitle settings:
• CC: Background
• CC: Characters
• CC: Options
• CC: Source
The most common sources are STD 1 and Digital 1.
