Same Plan, Same Number plan
The Same Plan, Same Number plan allows you to make and receive calls, exchange text messages, and use mobile data from an Apple Watch paired with your iPhone.
Your watch and phone use the same number. The data used by the watch is deducted from the Mobile plan linked to your phone.
Coverage offered
Once the Mobile plan for your watch is activated, your Apple Watch can connect to the cellular network anywhere in Canada where VoLTE is available. See Videotron’s mobile network coverage.
Outside the VoLTE coverage areas, you can use your Apple Watch via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
International roaming service is not currently available for smartwatches, even if your Mobile plan includes data that can be used abroad.
Good to know
Using your Apple Watch without your iPhone nearby
The Same Plan, Same Number plan allows you to use voice, text, and data services, even if the Apple Watch is not close to your iPhone, as long as the watch is connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network.
When your phone is turned off, however, only iMessages can be received on your watch. iMessage and iCloud services must be configured on the watch and on the phone. Learn more about using Apple Watch without your iPhone nearby.
Watch-to-phone connection types
Apple Watch can connect to your iPhone three ways, in order of priority based on how close your phone is:
- Bluetooth
- Wi-Fi (on the same network as the phone)
- Cellular mode
Cellular mode only works in Canada. When you are out of the country, the watch resorts to using the first two types of connection (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi).
