Using your mobile device abroad

Here’s some helpful information to make it easier to use your mobile phone while travelling.

Enabling airplane mode

If you plan on using your cell phone exclusively with Wi-Fi, we recommend you enable airplane mode. This mode prevents your device from accessing the cellular network for calling, texting, or using the Internet.

Monitoring your data usage

You can track your usage of the Daily Traveller Pass and your call minutes, text messages, and data from the User Centre + app (available on Google Play or the App Store) or from the online Customer Centre. You need to be online to track your usage, so be sure to connect to a Wi-Fi network if you don’t want to use mobile data.

Calling Canada from abroad

Even if you have a Canadian mobile plan and device, you must follow these steps to make a call to Canada from abroad:

  1. Press and hold the 0 key until the + symbol appears.
  2. Dial 1, the area code, and the telephone number of the person you’re calling.
